September 11th is a key date in Chile’s history. On that day in 1973, a coup d’état overthrew President Salvador Allende — the first democratically elected socialist leader in Latin America.
This September 13th, 2025, at IberoDocs, we pay tribute to the thousands of Chileans who were killed, disappeared, or tortured. We also remember Allende’s final words: “and again they will open the great avenues where the free man will pass to build a better society.” We honour this memory with the screening of Chilean cinema that invites reflection and dialogue.
Join us for the Scottish Premieres of Relentless Memory and See it, Say it, Draw it. The screening will be followed by an in-person Q&A with the director of the short film, Colombian-born, Edinburgh-based José Luis Cote.

When Margarita, a Mapuche academic, uncovers an unknown archive documenting the testimonies of Mapuche prisoners violently expelled during the military invasions that founded Argentina and Chile, she is deeply moved. Guided by the diary of Katrulaf, a Mapuche prisoner of war, she retraces the deportation routes of her ancestors — a history silenced for over a century.
